There are six whisky regions: Highlands, Lowland, Speyside, Islands, Campbeltown and Islay. Islay, as a Hebridean island, is sometimes considered part of the Islands scotch region, but its flavour characteristics are so distinctive that it makes sense to call it a sixth region.
