The major updates were to the Photomic metering finders which increased sensitivity, offered needle or LED indicators, and added compatibility with AI lenses. Some controls, as well as the metering indicators, depend on the finder. All of the metered viewfinders show the exposure indicator, shutter speed and aperture in the finder. the Photomic introduced a crucial concept to the Nikon system: NON-OBSOLESCENCE. By placing the meter in the prism head assembly, Nikon was ingeniously able to update its metering system as time went on without obsolescing the body. All a customer had to do was take off the meter uses two like the Photomic FTn then you need a drop from 3.1v to 2.6v.

I’m not sure what is involved in modifying a Photomic FTn. If it’s easy to remove the batter chamber and there is space then the job will be easy.
